Our Community Stories

The Stieflers' Journey

Between Colorado and Venice

For Richard Stiefler, a retired physician, learning at Chabad isn't just about education—it's about transformation. Together with his wife Paule, they've discovered more than just a place to learn; they've found a spiritual home.

"When learning is infused with the depth of knowledge and wisdom of our Jewish sages, it becomes part of the daily way I lead my life. I feel I am walking into my own home every time I enter the Chabad shul in Venice—a feeling and an experience difficult to duplicate anywhere else."

The Coles' Discovery

From New Jersey to Venice

When Ruth and Dana Cole moved from New Jersey in 2021, they weren't sure they'd find a strong Jewish community. Their daughter Naomi's Jewish education became a cornerstone of their family's involvement, leading to a beautiful Bat Mitzvah celebration that deepened their connection to the community.

"Once you see Chabad Hebrew School in action, it's an easy choice! They use fun and engaging activities to teach about Torah, mitzvot, prayers, and Hebrew. We especially value the focus on Jewish values and love of Judaism."

The Altmans' Freedom

From Minsk to Venice

When Gene and Lana Altman left Minsk in 1978, they were seeking more than just a new home—they were searching for freedom. After 40 years in Chicago, retirement brought them to Venice, where a chance encounter with Chabad transformed their Jewish experience.

"Learning about Jewish traditions and history, especially for those who weren't exposed to it in the 'old country,' has given us a huge boost in life. Seeing smiles at holiday celebrations, meeting wonderful friends through Chabad—it's given us an additional purpose in life."
